The Ford Explorer can tow up to 5,000 lbs. with either its standard 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower or the available 3.5-liter EcoBoost with best-in-class 365 horsepower. The Ford Explorer also has one other available engine to offer drivers, a powerful 280 horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine.

In addition to having more powertrain options available the Ford Explorer is more efficient than the Chevrolet Traverse. The Chevrolet Traverse has a larger engine, a bigger fuel tank, and still gets fewer miles per gallon. Every engine the Ford Explorer has to offer has better fuel economy ratings for having a smaller engine and being more powerful.
